[RM STORY #10, PIKOUROUS AND THE GREAT BRITAIN!]

Date

This time, we’re heading toward North Brittany, the English Channel and the Great Britain!

Every Friday we share a real story lived by RM Yachts owners.

Today, it’s about « Pikou Rous », an RM1050 built in 2008. Her owners are a couple from Brittany.

NB:  this yacht’s owner is a proud member of AVRM, a non-for-profit organization federating some RM Yachts owners. More info on: https://rm-asso.org

Together, they’ve visited Sweden, Finland, Scotland, Ireland and recently the Azores archipelago.

They frequently share their on-board short-handed experience.

Thursday, the 15th of May, 2014 : From Port la Forêt to Bréhat

“This year we have selected a closer destination: the English Channel, Cornwall, Channel Islands, and in-between, the northern part of Brittany, that, regretfully, we don’t know that much yet.

Departing from Port-la-Forêt on the 1st of May, under the usual local drizzle and a medium breeze. We sail close-hauled toward the “Bigouden” country, and reach Audierne river just in time for the night.

Saturday, the 14th of June, 2014 : Great Britain, here we come!

Some pontoon neighbors dissuaded us to spend too much time on the South Coast (Poole, Isle of Wight), as we were told these places are overcrowded.

Therefore, on Friday the 13th, we are heading toward Brixham, a westerly destination, easily reachable within a navigation day.

Monday, the 30th of June, 2014 : Scilly Islands

Weather conditions have deteriorated. Nothing dangerous but we have to cope with swell and winds to find the best shelter every night. We would love to ground Pikourous a bit longer on these sandy beaches. On Thursday evening, slowly navigating between hazards and shoals, we head toward the eastern part of Tresco, and moor in front of Pentle Bay beach. Too much swell. We move a bit north, in front of Old Grimsby quay, our third mooring on that day!
