Marine plywood laminated with epoxy produces a hull that is both stiff and light, fully encapsulated in resin. This plywood-epoxy building process, which sets RM apart in the industry, serves three purposes: a stiffness-to-weight ratio that benefits sailing performance, thermal and acoustic insulation well above that of a polyester hull, and the use of a renewable raw material. It is also what gives RM yachts their characteristic stiffness under sail.
No. The wood never comes into contact with water: it is encapsulated in epoxy, then painted. Routine maintenance is that of any cruising yacht — annual haul-out and antifouling, checking the hull paint and the deck fittings for watertightness. Unlike polyester hulls, osmosis is simply not a concern.

The fin keel favours pointing ability and upwind performance, with a deeper draft. The twin keel version reduces draft and lets the boat sit upright on her keels, which opens up tidal areas, shallow anchorages and intentional drying out.
