To go faster and further the RM is full of special innovations
On stepping on to the boat you discover a large and functional cockpit, the side decks are wide, you steer with a tiller and a locker is dedicated to the liferaft. The rigging is springy/slender and has long spreaders, the sail has battons running it's entire length and is mounted on ball bearing cars. On the foredeck, a intermediary forestay supports the furling staysail which can be used to recenter the lateral force of the wind when it increases.
Le deck layout and equipment are designed primarily for the sailor.
You are first of all surprised by the view, you can see forward! The panoramic view is very comfortable but it is also an important safety tool when on long journey's, it allows you to navigate from inside when the weather isn't as good. There is also: A technical area which is indispensible on long crossings, a large chart table, sea berths...
You will appreciate all these technical advantages in a clear, elegant and warm atmosphere.
At sea there isn't anything flashy, we left the frills to the motor boats, kepping the essentials
and good taste.
The boat is fast and lively : its weight is 15% less than that of a classic long distance sailing boat with large sail areas, a long water line and shaped appendices make it a boat capable of some serious milage!
The hull is signed by Marc Lombard, it is modern and strong with the beam of the boat being close to the stern.
You will be surprised by the boats stability and by its course stability given by the chine hull. The boat sails well on all points of sail and in a straight line.
Built with Plywood epoxy, the hulls of RM's are lighter and more rigid than polyester boats. This allows them to achieve, not only, better nautical performances but also to have a more durable hull. On an RM there is no risk of Osmosis or delamination. For when sailing in icy conditions we'll add, as an extra, a protective layer of Kevlar which will protect the hull from collisions with Growlers (underwater icebergs).
The RM also has 1001 technical specifications that adds to the quality of production and performance :
- A galvanised steel structure is glued, screwed and stratified ;
the deck won't move at all and you'll have the guarantee of completely waterproof seal.
- The keels are very secure, and are stratified to the hull to achieve an unequeled strength and rigidity among other production line boats.
